New weather alert system available to all Newton County residents
NEWTON COUNTY, GA – Newton County residents will now receive immediate notifications of severe weather such as tornadoes, flash floods or severe thunderstorms thanks to a new Emergency Alert Warning System called CodeRED.
The CodeRED notifications, provided by the Newton County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), can be received via text messages, email and home phone notifications. To get the notifications via your computer click on the following link: https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF879E7AA795.

“This service (CODE RED) takes the available technology to a whole new level in Mass Notification and Early Warning,” Newton County EMA Director Jody Nolan said. “The Weather alerts will be sent out immediately using this service through the National Weather Service (NWS) it eliminates the delay of setting off the weather sirens; in some cases by minutes and that could save lives.”
The service is available to all Newton County residents, stretching the entire geographical area of Newton County. Through use of the CodeRED App, users can also get alerts in any of the 84 counties in Georgia and other areas throughout the United States and Canada that participate in the program.
Also, future notifications such as alerts on missing children, missing elderly, road closures, downed trees and/or power lines, street and road closures, flooding conditions, road closings due to wrecks may be sent out as Newton County employees in various departments attend trainings.
The CodeRED Emergency Alert Warning System is free to Newton County residents and was approved by the Newton County Board of Commissioners during its May 15 Regular Meeting. The motion, which passed unanimously, including use of a $15,000,000 grant obtained by the Newton County EMA.
